Your family doesn’t need somebody else’s itinerary
A good day together is a better goal than getting through every stop.

Begin with the day you want to have
There’s a difference between wanting to visit a place and wanting to complete everything available there. Add family life to a packed itinerary and that difference becomes especially useful.
We’d start by deciding what matters about the day. Time outside? A meal together? Seeing one particular place? Pick the thing that gives the day its shape, then let the rest support it. A plan with space in it is easier to adjust without feeling as though the whole trip has gone wrong.
Allow for the unphotographed hours
Getting ready, eating, resting, and moving between places all need room. Those hours rarely appear in a destination roundup, but they still belong to the trip. If the itinerary works only when nothing takes longer than expected, it probably needs fewer things on it.
Keep an easy option available. That might mean spending longer in one spot or letting an ambitious outing wait for another visit. Changing the plan can be a thoughtful decision rather than a disappointing result.
Keep something for yourselves
Sharing travel is part of what we do. Family life also deserves space that doesn’t need an audience. A moment can matter without becoming a post, and a day can be good without producing anything to show for it.
We want our travel stories to leave room for that. You don’t owe anyone proof that you made the most of every hour. A place experienced at your family’s pace may look quieter than the version you saved online. It may also be the version you actually enjoy. That seems like a pretty good reason to choose it.
